Inject some pop of colour into your wardrobe.

No disrespect to President Biden but the highlights outfit wise belonged to the female dignitaries who came out in full force with some STRONG fits at the Inauguration Day. Monochromatic outfitting was the name of the game and the power move of choice by America’s most celebrated, formidable and influential women as well other participants and invitees of the ceremony.

New FLOTUS Dr Biden, opted for a cerulean ensemble, the small touches and details like deep coloured velvet collar and cuffs added richness against the textured coat which made for a good contrast. It was also a nice touch that Dr. Biden choose a small New York label to wear, as the fabric district was one of the affected by the pandemic. The outfit pair very neatly and President Elect Joe Biden’s choice of a sharp tailored suit and a solid overcoat by legendary and quintessentially American designer Ralph Lauren. This patriotic sartorial move was also evident through the ranks and followed by many friends and family. The event was full of American labels and designers and garnered a sense of unity and togetherness that was prevalent throughout the day.

The standouts were the monochromatic outfits worn was the electric violet sported by Vice President Kamala Harris, the deep burgundy by former FLOTUS Michelle Obama in burgundy. Both opted to wear pieces from black designers and underrepresented labels Sergio Hudson and Christopher John Rodgers, respectively. Former Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton wore a deep purple pantsuit combination by Ralph Lauren to round up the trio. This triumvirate slayed in their fits by all accounts. Unity or rather the display of united front to the American people, the country, media and the rest of the world was essential. The instrument for and this bipartisanship for the greater good was achieved through the visual use of the colour purple once more. Purple has been used before as the proverbial olive branch between the two respective parties. Blue for the Democrat and Red for Republican together as one.

Purple also has long ties and links with the Suffragette movement, a detail which would have definitely not been missed or taken lightly with the historic appointment of Kamala Harris as America’s first female Black Asian American Vice President. The colour of purple has always been associated as a regal and royal hue, it was fitting for the American equivalent, past and present to don the colour in unison. It’d be a nice laugh to picture the women having all orchestrated these powerful flex moves via What’s App group; social media would revel in delight. There’s a strong sense of solidarity in America’s most politically influential women former and current all wearing monochromatic outfits like they’re representing all the hopes and wishes of understanding and togetherness which was perfectly tied in President Biden’s speech. No matter the political affiliation the greatest goal will always be the good of the country and the people in it.

In an unrelated event, AOC was seen sporting a burgundy ensemble whilst supporting food manufacturer workers on strike wanting to attain a $1 hourly raise at Hunts Point Market in the Bronx borough, New York. Again, the thought of these powerful women co-ordinating via What’s App group to plan these fits would be a thing to behold, we can but dream of such a thing. An honorary mention goes to Bernie Sanders and his fabulous mittens, we’ll see if mittens become the new fashion accessory of 2021.

Now whilst the thought of pulling off bright monochromatic outfits might intimidate and deter most people; it doesn’t mean you can’t channel the same strong vibes and add some pop and power into your wardrobe.
